Counselor & Jr. Volunteer Counselor Applications are being accepted! Please fill out the application form below for consideration for the 2026 Malverne Summer Rec program.  Program runs Monday - Thursday from 9AM to Noon from July 6th through August 13th.

Responsibilities

Camp counselors play an important role in creating a safe, structured, and fun environment for all campers. We’re looking for individuals who are responsible, mature, and enthusiastic about working with children. Counselors should feel confident supervising groups, leading activities, and making sure every child feels included, supported, and engaged.

We also expect our counselors to be positive role models—demonstrating leadership, responsibility, and good judgment at all times. Returning staff should have shown these qualities in previous summers to be considered for rehire.

Hiring Process

While we value prior participation in MSR and Village residency, hiring is not automatic. Each position comes with significant responsibility, and selections are based on the needs of the program and camper enrollment.

Our Summer Recreation Directors—who are certified teachers—are committed to maintaining a safe and high-quality program. Hiring decisions are made at their discretion. Not all applicants will be interviewed, especially if the Directors are already familiar with an applicant’s experience and performance.

Applicants will be contacted on a rolling basis, and decisions may not all be shared at the same time. Paid Counselor positions are filled first, followed by Junior Counselor roles.

Communication

Clear and reliable communication is essential. Applicants should regularly check their email and voicemail and make sure their voicemail inbox is not full. Please provide your own contact information (not a parent’s).

If you don’t yet have a personal email address, now is a great time to create one! We’re looking for applicants who can demonstrate independence and responsibility in communicating about their application.

Attendance

Consistent attendance is critical to keeping campers safe and properly supervised. If a counselor is unexpectedly absent, it can impact the entire group.

Please share all known vacation plans or scheduling conflicts in your application. This helps us plan ahead and ensure proper coverage. Failure to disclose absences in advance may affect future hiring opportunities.

Volunteer Applicants (Junior Counselors)

To provide the best possible experience, Junior Counselors will be divided into two sessions (first 3 weeks or last 3 weeks), with a limit of 24 participants per session.

Please include any vacation plans so we can place you in the session that works best for your schedule.
